Art has a part in our politics!

As one of our 10 Key values, The Green Party holds dear a respect for all of the diversity on the planet. Many see us as defenders of the existing life forms in the plant & animal world & that is true.

However, it goes beyond that. We cherish the rich cultures that have emerged from the world over. We respect native's rights to stay preserved in their ancient ways without interference from forced "civilization" that seeks to kill their culture & extract their resources.

History tells us that the Assyrians conquered huge swaths of the Middle East & then displaced cultures & peoples so as to disorient them from rebellion. A by product of that was a sharing of ideas & growth of culture's combining. And so it went, as travel & communication evolved to encompass more discovery of the planet these ways of life, arts & sciences expanded into their own special blends. Here in the USA we have, arguably, the most diverse culture blend of any country. Greens celebrate that!

It is not surprising, that combined with the freedoms of our nation & the potential that exists here for various art forms, that this should well be the driving force in our country's development. It is in this spirit that I introduce another level that you may not have known about The Green Party. We have always strongly supported incorporating the Arts into school curriculum, just as we support free speech & media reform. Therefore I am calling out to the artists & those who are creative to join this party as your natural home. We love & respect your talent, energy & freedom in expression that should not be held back by discrimination or lack of concern.

If I could be so bold as to choose a Poet Laureate for the Florida Green Party, I would choose a native born woman from the northern part of the state (Havana) who now is based in the Tampa Bay area. Her name is Quiana Frazier. Quiana has a masters degree in Business Administration (May 2003) along with Master's Degrees in Adult Education w/ focus in curriculum writing (May 2006) and in Public Administration (January 2010). She is also a poet who also incorporates guitar & drums (played by her sister Najah) into her pieces which reflect on so many of the core values that the Green Party cherish.

The depth of her work expands from personal journeys to a clear perspective comment on commercialism & the political theater that is played in our country's capital on down to our small towns & cities. She speaks for peace & justice. She speaks for a better direction by putting a perspective together that one can read & interpret. As a Green, I feel that she speaks for me.
