Nobody’s Feet are going to be held to the Fire (part 2)

Two different economic systems in the World Arena.

(continued from part 1.)
According to the official “Summary of the U.S. 2018 National Defense Strategy”:

“the Department of Defense will be prepared to defend the homeland, remain the preeminent military power in the world, ensure the balances of power remain in our favor, and advance an international order that is most conducive to our security and prosperity.”

To the Empire, the mass starvation of children via sanctions is merely another tool of war under the banner of human rights and a “rules-based international order.”

Nobody’s Feet are going to be held to the Fire (part 1).

2021 is the year the shit is going to hit the fan.

As bad as 2020 has been, there is still a heavy backlog of bills (financial and political) that are coming due.  Hunger and homelessness rise inexorably, as does long-term unemployment.  Loss of medical insurance will leave millions at the mercy of overcrowded Emergency Rooms, as the Covid-stressed medical system continues to break.  Corporate profit-seeking has stalled the emergency vaccination plan.  Unpaid rent and mortgages will put legions more on the street.  They’ll keep cranking up war hysteria.  Oh, did I forget the coming across-the-board breakdown of state and local governments, and their accompanying safety net?

The Chickens Come Home to Roost

— Madelyn Hoffman
—Rose Roby

January 6, 2021 will be remembered as the day the President of the United States whipped his supporters into a violent frenzy and the rage-filled mob stormed a shockingly unsecured Capitol Building while it was in the process of confirming Biden’s Electoral College victory.  It wasn’t hard.  Trump has been howling about being the real winner of the election since his defeat to Joe Biden last November.

Fla. Gov. Ron DeSantis would return state to Lynch Law Days.

Florida law through the centuries.

Between 1882 and 1930, African Americans were more likely to be lynched in Florida than in any other state.  With less than a month before 2021 cycles in, Ron DeSantis plans to keep this lynching legacy alive.  The Combatting Violence, Disorder and Looting and Law Enforcement Protection Act is the Governor’s imperialistic and racist package to stop public assemblies and protect law enforcement.

If you read the outline of this horrific bill, you will see that its historic manipulative flare cannot be ignored.

Florida under Siege. DeSantis to Florida: “Drop Dead!”

Governor Rick DeSantis.

When I wrote “Florida under Siege“ published May 14, the official Florida Covid-19 death count stood at 1,898 (among 42,402 confirmed cases). Today the death score is 3,546 dead out of 146,341 cases. On May 14th, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis had just appointed his Re-Open Florida Task Force. Now we reap the harvest.

In mid-May, an excessively charitable person could have ascribed his action to stupidity. Today, as the body-count spirals out of control, it is nothing less than murder.

Legacy.

The smoke is beginning to dissipate.  The chants and the echoes of the chants are starting to fade.  Now the real fight begins.  The fight over what all this means.  The horrific murder, the headlines, the jam-packed streets spreading across the country, and the heavily armed troops prowling the streets of America — all will reverberate for years.  And the flames.  Don’t forget the flames.

Insurrection.

April 20, 1914: Ludlow Massacre. An American tradition.

Why does the spectre of Insurrection haunt America?

Sez Donald Trump:  “Our nation has been gripped by professional anarchists, violent mobs, or, arsonists, looters, criminals, rider rioters, Antifa and others … acts of domestic terror … If a city or state refuses to take the actions that are necessary to defend the life and property of their residents, then I will deploy the United States military and quickly solve the problem.”  He would invoke an 1807 law called the Insurrection Act.

The Centre cannot hold — European Edition

Notre Dame burns.

As “the Continent” braces itself for a heat wave expected to be worse than the 2003 one which killed 20,000 Europeans, the headlines of last May showed alarm in varying degrees, from the European press to the titans of the New York Times and Washington Post.  The elections for the 751 seats in the European Parliament had just marked disturbing gains for both European Green parties and the anti-immigrant nationalist parties identified with the Far Right.  American Greens were delighted:

European Greens surge … voters abandon old parties over climate!

In Defense of Passionate Intensity.

Or why we need to pay attention to what is happening with the Brett Kavanaugh nomination to the Supreme Court.

We all know the lines from the Second Coming by WB Yeats:

“Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;”

Indeed the centre is falling apart.  I recall Rose and I watching from our 15th floor Jersey condo as the flames destroyed the Twin Towers on 911.  I was on the phone to my brother in Ohio, telling him that one tower had just gone down, while Rose was frantically trying to get my attention and pointing out the window.  I looked.  There were NO towers.  Only an unending plume of smoke that hovered for days.
